Crystal truncation rods from miscut surfaces with alternating terminations

چکیده

Miscut surfaces of layered crystals can exhibit a stair-like sequence terraces having periodic variation in their atomic structure. For hexagonal close-packed and related crystal structures with an {\alpha}{\beta}{\alpha}{\beta} stacking sequence, there have been long-standing questions regarding how the differences adatom attachment kinetics at steps separating affect fractional coverage {\alpha} vs. {\beta} termination during growth. To demonstrate surface X-ray scattering help address these questions, we develop general theory for intensity distributions along truncation rods (CTRs) miscut combination two terminations. We consider half-unit-cell-height steps, coverages above each step. Example calculations are presented GaN (0001) various reconstructions. These show which CTR positions most sensitive to compare profiles exactly oriented those vicinal small angle, investigate circumstances under profile is equal sum intensities corresponding family CTRs surface.

Theory of tricriticality for miscut surfaces.

We propose a theory for the observed tricriticality in the orientational phase diagram of Si(113) misoriented towards [001]. The systems seems to be at or close to a very special point for long range interactions. Typeset using REVTEX

Self-Propelled Rods near Surfaces

We study the behavior of self-propelled nanoand micro-rods in three dimensions, confined between two parallel walls, by simulations and scaling arguments. Our simulations include thermal fluctuations and hydrodynamic interactions, which are both relevant for the dynamical behavior at nanoto micrometer length scales. In order to investigate the importance hydrodynamic interactions, we also perfo...

Dynamical Approach for X-ray Diffraction from Surfaces and Interfaces: Interpretation of Crystal Truncation Rod Using Dynamical Theory

X-ray diffraction from crystal surfaces and interfaces is described within the framework of the dynamical theory. The intensity distributions of specular and non-specular crystal truncation rods are interpreted with this dynamical approach. Difficulties encountered in the ordinary dynamical calculation for these rods are mentioned and the details of the numerical calculation procedure which ove...

Wave reflections from duct terminations.

The reflection coefficients and inertial end corrections of several duct terminations, including finite length duct extensions perpendicular to an infinite wall, as well as at a number of angles, curved interface surfaces, and annular cavities, are determined and analyzed in the absence of flow by employing the boundary element method. Predictions for the classical unflanged and flanged circula...

Nanometer-scale striped surface terminations on fractured SrTiO(3) surfaces.

Using cross-sectional scanning tunneling microscopy on in situ fractured SrTiO(3), one of the most commonly used substrates for the growth of complex oxide thin films and superlattices, atomically smooth terraces have been observed on (001) surfaces. Furthermore, it was discovered that fracturing this material at room temperature results in the formation of stripe patterned domains having chara...
